What it's like building a wall in Northport
Northport's terrain ranges from the flat village center to the high bluffs of Eaton's Neck and Asharoken. These are among the most extreme grade changes anywhere on Long Island. Sandy soil dominates near the water, glacial till further inland.
The Northport neighborhoods we work in most: Northport Village, Asharoken, Eaton's Neck, Fort Salonga. If you're in or near any of these and need a wall built or replaced, we likely know your street and the soil under it.
The walls Northport homeowners ask us about
Bluff stabilization on the Sound side (a specialized job that requires real engineering), driveway retaining walls on the lanes off Ocean Avenue, and tiered gardens on the village's older properties.
We did a stabilization job on Asharoken in October 2024 that needed two engineering revisions before the village approved the plan. End result was a 64 LF Magnum stone wall set into the slope with two layers of geogrid extending eight feet back into the hillside. Came in at $41,500. Owner said the prior quote (no geogrid, no engineer) was $22K. The cheap version would have failed inside five years.

Northport retaining wall FAQ
How much does a retaining wall cost in Northport? Most Northport projects fall between $180 and $360 per linear foot installed, including drainage. A typical 50 LF wall runs $12,000 to $20,000. Bigger walls, walls needing geogrid, or walls needing an engineer's stamp run higher.
Do I need a permit? On the North Shore, walls over 4 feet almost always require a permit, and many villages want an engineer's stamp at that height. We handle the filing.
How long does the job take? 4 to 10 working days on site for most jobs. Permit review adds 4 to 11 weeks depending on the village or town.
What block do you usually use? Cambridge Pavingstones (Pyzique, MaytRx, Olde English) and Nicolock (Olde Greenwich, Stonegate). For natural stone we work with local Long Island suppliers.
